Some of the people who build SODAX, quietly and without much recognition, are Nepalese, and the team is proud to contribute in kind for their communities’ recovery.
Blockchain technology and communities can verifiably move real capital across borders in minutes, reaching people who need it now instead of in a week. We are very happy to see initiatives like this bring the people and technology of the space together for good.
Nepal is in the middle of a genuine crisis. Severe flooding over the past several weeks has displaced thousands of families, destroyed homes, and washed away roads, bridges, and farmland across large parts of the country. Recovery will take years, and it's already straining communities that had little room to absorb a shock like this.
In response, Solana and Mallow launched a fundraising campaign built entirely around Nepal's relief effort, with all proceeds going directly to organizations supporting the recovery. You can find the campaign at nepal.mallow.art.
We took part, and donated $13,000 toward Nepal's recovery.
We built SODAX on a simple belief: financial opportunity shouldn't depend on someone's circumstances. Blockchain technology has the potential to bring financial mobility, access, and success to everyone.
For most of history, access to good financial tools has depended on geography: your bank, your government's currency, whether your savings survive inflation or a system that doesn't reach you. Blockchain broke that link. Value can move without needing anyone's permission, and it can't be seized or quietly devalued by circumstance.
That's the world we're building toward: a person in Kathmandu with the same shot at holding and growing their money as anyone else. Moments like this flooding bring that need into sharp focus. We're proud to see the community act on it, and hope to see more of this ahead.
When this campaign came up, it wasn't really a question for us. As a global team, Nepal isn't some far-away abstraction.
Some of the people who've worked hardest to get SODAX where it is today, quiet, unglamorous engineering and support work, are based in Nepal. SODAX wouldn't exist in its current form without them. When the floods hit, our hearts went out to them and their communities.
Giving back was the least we could do, for what our team has given us over the years, and because it's the right use of this technology.
